Leather Care

Leather Care — The Nakshara
Leather Care

Care for your strap,
and it will last a lifetime.

Leather is a natural material — it responds to how it's treated. These are the care habits that keep a Nakshara strap looking and feeling its best, for years to come.

Everyday Care

Wipe After Every Wear

Use a dry or barely damp cloth to gently wipe the strap after wearing — removing sweat, dust, and skin oils before they can work into the leather grain.

Let It Rest

Rotate between straps if you can — allowing leather to dry out and breathe between uses significantly extends its lifespan and keeps the shape intact.

Condition Regularly

Apply a small amount of leather conditioner once every 4–6 weeks. This replenishes natural oils, prevents cracking, and keeps the leather supple and soft.

Treat Gently

Leather doesn't need scrubbing — a light touch is always enough. Avoid pulling, twisting, or folding the strap in ways it wouldn't naturally sit on the wrist.

Do's & Don'ts

Do

  • Let leather air dry naturally if it gets wet — at room temperature, away from direct heat.
  • Use a purpose-made leather conditioner — beeswax or lanolin-based products work well.
  • Store flat or loosely rolled in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Loosen the buckle slightly before storage — this relieves tension on the holes and the buckle bar.
  • Test any new product on a small, hidden area first before applying it fully.

Don't

  • Submerge the strap in water or wear it while swimming — even water-resistant leather will degrade over time.
  • Dry it with a hairdryer or leave it in direct sunlight — heat causes the leather to crack and fade.
  • Use alcohol, acetone, baby wipes, or household cleaners — these strip the leather's natural oils.
  • Apply conditioner to soaking-wet leather — let it dry first, then condition.
  • Over-condition — too much product can soften the leather excessively or leave residue on the wrist.

How to Clean Your Strap

01

Remove the strap from your watch

Use your spring bar tool to detach the strap before cleaning — this protects your watch case and gives you full access to both strap halves, including the underside.

02

Wipe with a dry cloth

Start with a clean, lint-free dry cloth. Wipe the top and underside of both strap halves to remove surface dust, dead skin, and loose particles before introducing any moisture.

03

Spot-clean with a slightly damp cloth

If there are stubborn marks, dampen a cloth very lightly with clean water and gently work the affected area in small circular motions. Don't rub hard — let the moisture loosen the dirt.

04

Dry at room temperature

Lay the strap flat on a clean dry surface and allow it to air dry completely at room temperature. This usually takes 20–30 minutes. Never use heat to speed this up.

05

Apply conditioner

Once fully dry, apply a small pea-sized amount of leather conditioner to a soft cloth and work it gently into the top surface of the leather in circular motions. Let it absorb for 10 minutes, then buff off any excess with a clean dry cloth.

06

Reattach when fully dry

Allow the conditioner to fully absorb and the strap to feel dry to the touch before reattaching it to your watch. This prevents product residue from transferring to your case or wrist.

Storing Your Strap

  • Keep straps in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight — UV light fades colour and dries out leather over time.
  • Avoid storing leather in airtight containers or plastic bags — leather needs to breathe. A dust pouch or open drawer is ideal.
  • Don't store leather near radiators, car dashboards, or any warm, humid environments.
  • If storing long-term, condition the strap first and store it flat or in a gentle loop — never tightly coiled or sharply folded.
  • Keep dark and light leather straps separate if possible, as some dyes can transfer over time.

Well-cared-for leather develops a beautiful patina over time — small marks and character lines that make your strap uniquely yours. If you have questions about a specific leather type or care situation, we're happy to help.
