How We Craft — Nakshara
Our Process

How Nakshara Crafts Every Strap

20 steps, done by hand, one strap at a time. Nothing is skipped.

Step 01

Leather Selection

Every strap begins with carefully selected leather. We inspect each hide for grain, character, and lasting quality before the first cut is made.

Step 02

Cutting

The outer leather and lining are cut by hand to exact dimensions. Clean cuts determine the final shape and symmetry of the finished strap.

Step 03

Skiving

The edges of the leather are thinned using a skiving knife — reducing bulk at the folds and joins so the strap sits flat against the wrist.

Step 04

Reinforcement

A reinforcement layer is placed between the outer leather and lining, adding strength so the strap holds its shape through years of wear.

Step 05

Gluing

A specialist leather adhesive bonds the outer leather, reinforcement, and lining together. Alignment is checked before the glue sets.

Step 06

Lining

The inner lining is carefully laid and pressed onto the interior face, giving the strap its soft, comfortable feel against the wrist.

Step 07

Rolling

A hand roller is worked across the bonded layers to press out air pockets, ensuring a flat, bubble-free surface before stitching.

Step 08

Shaping

The strap is trimmed to its final silhouette — taper, tip shape, and proportions refined by hand so both halves are perfectly symmetrical.

Step 09

Sanding

Raw edges are sanded smooth ahead of edge painting, creating a clean surface for the paint to adhere to uniformly.

Step 10

Edge Marking

A groover is run along the strap face to create a clean channel for the stitching to sit in.

Step 11

Pricking Holes

A French chisel punches stitch holes at even intervals along the marked channel.

Step 12

Saddle Stitching

The strap is hand-stitched with the traditional saddle stitch — two needles, one thread, from both sides at once.

Step 13

Edge Creasing

A heated edge creaser runs a clean decorative line parallel to the stitching, compressing and setting the edge.

Step 14

Edge Painting

Edge paint is applied by hand in multiple coats until the edge is fully sealed and consistent from tip to buckle end.

Step 15

Keeper Attaching

The keeper loop is cut, finished, and attached to the long strap half, keeping the free end neatly in place.

Step 16

Installing Buckle

The buckle is folded into the short strap half and secured, with the tongue slot punched to size.

Step 17

Pin Hole Punch

Seven adjustment holes are punched at precise 6mm intervals for a secure and comfortable fit.

Step 18

Spring Bar Install

Quick-release spring bars are fitted into the end loops and tested for secure engagement before leaving the workshop.

Step 19

Quality Check

Every finished strap is inspected under good light — stitching, edges, symmetry, hardware, and holes are all checked closely.

Step 20

Result
