How We Measure Every Strap

Every Nakshara strap is built to the same precise spec — lug width, buckle width, overall length, and hole spacing are all shown below, so you know exactly what you're getting before you order.

All dimensions shown in millimeters. Lug and buckle width vary by strap — check the individual product listing for exact sizing.

The Basics

What is lug width — and why does it matter?

Lug width is the gap between the two metal arms on your watch case where the strap attaches. It's the one number that decides whether a strap will actually fit — get it wrong by even a millimeter and the strap simply won't sit right.

We currently craft straps in three widths:

18mm Typically found on slimmer dress watches and women's models.
20mm Our most-ordered width — fits the majority of standard-size watches.
22mm Suits larger cases — divers, pilot watches, and chunkier sports models.

Need something outside this range? Since each strap is hand-cut to order, write to us at hello@thenakshara.com and we'll see what's possible.

Option 1

Use the strap you already have

The simplest route. Whatever's currently on your watch — leather, metal bracelet, rubber, it doesn't matter — can tell you what you need.

01

Pop the strap off, or just get a close look at the point where it meets the case.

02

Measure straight across where the strap slots into the lugs — not the buckle end, which can be a touch narrower.

03

Match it to the closest standard width. Sitting between two sizes? Go with the smaller one for a tighter fit, or get in touch about a custom width.

Option 2

Look it up

Still have the box, manual, or original online listing for your watch? The lug width is almost always printed somewhere in the specs — usually written plainly as "20mm" or similar.

This is genuinely the easiest and most accurate option when it's available, since there's no measuring involved at all.

Option 3

Measure the case directly

No manual, no existing strap? You can still get an accurate number straight from the watch itself.

01

Take a ruler or tape measure and measure the open gap between the two lugs — the space the strap would sit in.

02

Work in millimeters — it's a much finer scale than inches, and far easier to get an accurate reading.

03

Round to the nearest size we offer: 18mm, 20mm, or 22mm.

A soft tailor's measuring tape tends to wrap the curve of a watch case far more accurately than a stiff ruler.

Need a Hand?

Just ask — we mean it.

Not totally sure what you've measured? Send a clear photo of your watch (strap off, if you can manage it) along with the brand and model, and we'll confirm the right size with you directly before anything goes into production.
